Somatic Experiencing is a type of therapy created by American Psychologist, Dr. Peter Levine. This therapy is widely used to treat trauma and other health-related concerns. This therapy focuses on your somatic experience (i.e. bodily sensations) as the vehicle for change.
Our bodies carry stories. These stories are filed away in our nervous system.
Have you ever noticed how your body responds in certain situations?
Examples:
Do you notice any urge in your legs to run away in social settings? (flee)
Do you feel your blood boiling with anger around people with different body sizes? (fight)
Do you feel stuck, like things are never going to change? (freeze)
